Marilena joined URBAN REFUGEES as the founder and director of its US branch. Her background includes extensive experience in non-profit and for profit start-ups, consulting, project management, social impact practices, creative and general management. Alongside her non-profit work, she works at a large publishing and education company in New York and is the NY+Acumen Courses Co-Chair. Marilena holds a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania with a focus on international development (Cum Laude) and a Masters in Ethnomusicology from the School or Oriental & African Studies in London (Honors). She continues her education by taking classes at the Center of Global Affairs at New York University. She has lived, travelled, conducted field work and volunteered abroad in multiple countries and is fluent in English, French, Greek and Spanish. Raised in Africa and Greece, Marilena currently lives in New York.
